The Frontier Closes

By about 1890, the frontier in Texas had closed. Native American groups had been forced onto reservations, buffalo herds were gone, and railroads crossed the dry plains. Land that once seemed empty went up for sale, and thousands of families moved west to farm and ranch in West Texas.
